Warren Buffett Information and Advice

Warren Buffett?
Could you, please, tell me about Warren Buffett?

A bit about his biography and with an emphasis on how he created his wealth.

Best answers:

Answer by Slim Whitman
Buffett is a buy low and hold investor.

Buffett’s philosophy on business investing is a modification of the value investing approach of his mentor Benjamin Graham. Graham bought companies because they were cheap compared with their intrinsic value. He was of the belief that as long as the market undervalued them relative to their intrinsic value he was making a solid investment. He reasoned that the market will eventually realize it has undervalued the company and will correct its course regardless of what type of business the company was in. In addition he believed that the business has to have solid economics behind it. Buffett’s investment style is also heavily influenced by Phil Fisher.

The following are some questions to determine what business to buy, based on the book Buffettology by Mary Buffett:

* Is the company in an industry with good economics, i.e., not an industry competing on price. Does the company have a consumer monopoly or brand name that commands loyalty? Can any company with an abundance of resources compete successfully with the company?

* Are the Owner Earnings on an upward trend with good and consistent margins?

* Is the debt-to-equity ratio low or is the earnings-to-debt ratio high, i.e. can the company repay debt even in years when earnings are lower than average?

* Does the company have high and consistent Returns on Invested Capital?

* Does the company retain earnings for growth?

* The business should not have high maintenance cost of operations, high capital expenditure or investment cash outflow. This is not the same as investing to expand capacity.

* Does the company reinvest earnings in good business opportunities? Does management have a good track record of profiting from these investments?

* Is the company free to adjust prices for inflation?

Buffett also concentrates on when to buy. He does not want to invest in businesses with indiscernible value. He will wait for market corrections or downturns to buy solid businesses at reasonable prices, since stock market downturns present buying opportunities.

He is known for being conservative when speculation is rampant in the market and being aggressive when others are fearing for their capital. This contrarian strategy is what led Buffett’s company through the Internet boom and bust without significant damage, although critics[attribution needed] have also noted that it may have led Berkshire to miss out on potential opportunities during the same period.

He also asks at what price is the business a bargain, and his answer typically is when it provides a higher rate of compounded return relative to other available investment opportunities.

Warren Buffett’s letters to shareholders are a valuable source in understanding his investment style and outlook.[13]

I think initially Berkshire began as a stock buying club of sorts and worked into the risk business.

8 Trading Habits From Warren Buffett

Article by Warren Seah

Dos and Don’t For Trading the Forex Market – Wisdom From Warren Buffett

1. Investing With Knowledge

Don’t do anything until you know what you are doing. – Jimmy Rogers

Do

The knowledge in this context doesn’t mean you need an educational degree in finance and economics to invest in the markets. It means learning about the potential markets you are interested to invest in. Knowing and understand them before you put money into the markets.

Don’t

Doesn’t realise that a deep understanding of what he is doing is an essential prerequisite to success. Rarely realizes that profitable opportunities exist within his own area of expertise.

2. Predefined Trading Plan

The secret is for a trader to develop a system with which he is compatible. – Ed Seykota

Do

Has developed his own investment philosophy which is suited to his own personalities and objectives. As a result, no two investors in the market trade in the same manner.

Don’t

Has no plan, uses other people’s system without own’s research. Do not have his own investment philosophy. What it happen is that you see the person change from one systems to another, and failing to understand the importance of writing a plan.

3. Researched And Tested Strategy

If I’m interested company, I’ll buy 100 shares of all its competitors to get their annual reports. – Warren Buffett

Do

Developed and tested one’s strategy for the pass 5 to 10 years to determine the viability of the systems. Characteristics of the systems are also understood before one put real money into investment strategy.

Don’t

Has no system. Or has adopted someone’s else’s without testing and adapting it to his own personality. (When such a system doesn’t work, he adopts another one blindly. Which doesn’t work for him either.)

4. Capital Preservation

If you don’t bet, you can’t win. If you lose all your chips, you can’t bet. – Larry Hite

Dos

First priority is to ensure your investment equity can survive and invest for another day. The market will always be there as long as your investment equity is available. If you protect your money and make it the number one priority in investment, you can survive long enough in the market to profit from the opportunities.

Don’t

Investment aim is “to make a lot of money.” As a result, failed to keep them.

5. Follow His Investment Plan

For me, it’s important to be loyal to my system. When I’m not… I’ve made a mistake.- Gil Bake

Do

Stick to his rules with discipline as long as its within the boundaries stated in his system plan. The fact is most investments do not win all the time. As investors, we need to be aware that there is drawdown period for any investment strategy.

Don’t

Lack of discipline to follow the rules as layout in the trading plan. (When such a system doesn’t work, he adopts another one. Which doesn’t work for him either.)

6. Learnt From Mistakes

One learns the most from mistakes, not successes. – Paul Tudor Jones

Do

Always treats mistakes as opportunities to improve oneself and never commit the same mistake again. An investor will never stop learning.

Don’t

Blame, justify and give excuses about the systems, people or circumstances that are at fault. While overlooking that he can improve his trading results if he identified them as mistakes and learnt from them.

7. Almost Never Talks to Anyone About What He is Doing

My idea of a group decision is to look in the mirror. – Warren Buffett

Do

Not concern about what he’s doing. Not interested or concerned with what others think about his investment decisions.

Don’t

Always asking for people’s opinions and finding the latest ‘Hot Tip’

8. Be a Risk Averse Investors

Do

Believe that risk can be managed, and always be prepared to beat a hasty retreat.

Don’t

Thinks that big profits can only be made by taking big risks.

Or did you ever think that perhaps he is endorsing Obama and in turn he has raked in BILLIONS!!!… go look at his assets and tell me if they haven’t skyrocketed since Obama’s presidency. 33. afterapplepicking says:

@jtsct He wasn’t proposing raising the taxes on people like you. Do you make over a million dollars a year? No. You clearly don’t, given your tone and your diction.

Did you even watch the video? He doesn’t even want to touch your taxes.

I bet you just said that because you read other comments and you assumed without even bothering to listen to what he said. Isn’t that true? It’s OK. You can tell me. I’m your buddy.

  37. musselshell says:

@garycalgary give your tax rates and income before saying he will tax you more listen and learn. He is talking about about he rich who have been given more therefore should pay equally if not more ie. Someone gets the benefit of much more income they should give back a larger percentage just as they got a larger percentage. Still they will live way above most.

  38. IzabelParis says:

No. Stimulus depends on Where the money goes. Spending money on banks and another country’s infrastructure while private companies make profit is not the same as spending on state infrastructure for the benefit of the taxpayers. Everything isn’t stimulus. And a country is not a person or a business. A country has the ability to print its own money, therefore borrowing from future generations without seeing its wealth diminish.

  39. joparac says:

@mxracer55r no – the ten are just retards that do not comment but just like to cause a stir and piss off the people that are compassionate and actually watch the video’s because they are truly interested.

  40. MrGrubtubs says:

@jtsct He’s not suggesting raising the taxes on the poor – only the rich, who make more than $1 million a year. So if you’re not making that much, you don’t have to worry. The dude is pledging 99% of his fortune to philanthropy ( raising the quality of life ). What is it about anything that he’s said makes him a dumb ass?

    #confused

  41. mxracer55r says:

the ten dislikes were either republicans, make over a million dollars a year, or both.. Wait I forgot uneducated.. look right below at “jtsct’s” comment for my reasoning. Its a waste to badger him about his minimalist lifestyle. People who work jobs never understand the concept that money is really just a commodity in itself. 96.
